Active ingredient
Timolol maleate is a non-selective beta-adrenoblocker that reduces intraocular pressure by reducing the production of intraocular fluid.
Dosage
- Initial dose: 1 drop of 0.25% solution in the affected eye 2 times a day.
- With insufficient effectiveness: switch to 0.5% solution — 1 drop 2 times a day.
- Maintenance therapy: 1 drop of 0.25% solution 1 time per day when the target level of intraocular pressure is reached.
Thymoptol is the trade name for eye drops containing the active ingredient timolol, a beta-blocker used to lower intraocular pressure in various forms of glaucoma.
Indications for Use:
- Open-Angle Glaucoma.
- Ocular Hypertension.
- Secondary Glaucoma:
- In selected cases, based on the physician’s evaluation.
Contraindications:
- Respiratory Disorders:
- Bronchial asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Cardiovascular Disorders:
- Sinus bradycardia.
- Second- or third-degree atrioventricular block.
- Uncontrolled heart failure.
- Cardiogenic shock.
- Allergic Reactions:
- Hypersensitivity to timolol or any other components of the formulation.
Side Effects:
- Local Reactions:
- Burning, itching, redness of the eye.
- Increased tearing or dry eyes.
- Systemic Reactions:
- Headache, dizziness.
- Bradycardia, decreased blood pressure.
- Bronchospasm (especially in susceptible individuals).
Special Instructions:
- Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases:
- Should be monitored closely during treatment for any exacerbation of symptoms.
- Diabetes Mellitus:
- Timolol may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia; caution is advised in diabetic patients.
- Contact Lens Use:
- Remove contact lenses before applying the drops. Wait at least 15 minutes after instillation before reinserting lenses.
- Consultation Required:
- Before starting Thymoptol, consult an ophthalmologist to determine the appropriateness of therapy and to establish the optimal dosage. Self-medication is not advised and may lead to serious adverse effects.
