Tenvir Em
Dosage form

 Tablets for oral administration.
Each tablet contains 300 mg tenofovir and 200 mg emtricitabine.

Active ingredient

 Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300 mg) and emtricitabine (200 mg). 

Dosage
  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection: one tablet once daily.
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV: one tablet daily, started before possible exposure and continued for the entire period of risk.

Indications for Use

  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents as part of combination antiretroviral therapy.
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): Reducing the risk of HIV infection in individuals at high risk of exposure.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to tenofovir, emtricitabine, or any excipients.
  • Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).
  • Concurrent use with other medications containing tenofovir or emtricitabine.

Adverse Effects

Common:

  • Headache, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, rash, fatigue.

Rare:

  • Lactic acidosis, hepatomegaly, renal impairment, osteomalacia.

Very rare:

  • Pancreatitis, rhabdomyolysis, allergic reactions.

Recommendations for Use

Administration:

  • Take tablets orally with sufficient water, preferably with food.

Precautions:

  • Conduct an HIV test before initiating therapy.
  • Regularly monitor renal function and viral load during treatment.
  • Avoid concurrent use with nephrotoxic drugs.

Special Instructions:

  • If symptoms of lactic acidosis occur (e.g., weakness, shortness of breath, abdominal pain), discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
  • This medication does not completely prevent HIV transmission. For maximum protection, combine medication with barrier contraception methods.
