Active ingredient

Vonoprazane fumarate — potassium is a competitive proton pump blocker that inhibits gastric acid secretion.

Dosage
  • Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once a day for up to 8 weeks.
  • Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once a day for up to 6 weeks.
  • Reflux esophagitis: 20 mg once a day for up to 4 weeks; if necessary, the course can be extended to 8 weeks.
  • Prevention of recurrence of ulcers associated with taking aspirin or NSAIDs: 10 mg once a day.
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori: 20 mg twice daily in combination with clarithromycin and amoxicillin for 7 days.

Takecab is the trade name of a medication containing vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) used to treat conditions associated with increased gastric acid secretion.

Indications for Use:

  1. Peptic Ulcer Disease:
    • Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
  2. Reflux Esophagitis:
    • Management of erosive and non-erosive reflux disease.
  3. Prevention of NSAID- or Aspirin-Associated Ulcers:
    • Reduces the risk of recurrent gastric or duodenal ulcers in patients taking low-dose aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  4. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori:
    • Used in combination with antibacterial agents for the eradication of H. pylori.

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to vonoprazan or any components of the drug.
  • Severe Hepatic or Renal Failure: Use is contraindicated or requires extreme caution.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended due to insufficient safety data.

Side Effects:

  1. Gastrointestinal System:
    • Constipation, diarrhea, bloating, nausea.
  2. Skin Reactions:
    • Rash, pruritus (itching).
  3. Other:
    • Edema, headache.

Special Instructions:

  1. Patients with Liver or Kidney Impairment:
    • Caution is advised, and dose adjustments may be necessary based on the severity of impairment.
  2. Drug Interactions:
    • Vonoprazan is metabolized via enzymes such as CYP3A4, CYP2B6, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and SULT2A1. Potential drug interactions should be assessed, especially with medications that utilize the same metabolic pathways.
  3. Consultation Required:
    • Before starting Takecab, consult a healthcare provider to determine the appropriateness of therapy and establish the optimal dosage. Self-medication is strongly discouraged and may result in adverse outcomes.
