Rebamipide is a gastroprotective agent used to treat gastrointestinal disorders involving mucosal damage.
Indications for Use:
- Peptic Ulcer Disease:
- Treatment of gastric ulcers.
- Chronic Gastritis with Hyperacidity:
- Management during the acute phase.
- Erosive Gastritis.
- Prevention of Mucosal Damage:
- While taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Contraindications:
- Known hypersensitivity to rebamipide or any components of the drug.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding.
- Pediatric Use: Not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age.
Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal System:
- Constipation, flatulence, diarrhea.
- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn.
- Liver:
- Elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST).
- Hematopoietic System:
- Leukopenia, granulocytopenia.
- Allergic Reactions:
- Skin rash, pruritus (itching), eczema-like eruptions.
- Other:
- Menstrual irregularities.
Special Instructions:
- Use in Elderly Patients:
- Exercise caution due to an increased likelihood of hypersensitivity to the drug.
- Effect on Driving and Machinery Operation:
- Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery requiring heightened attention and concentration.
- Consultation Required:
- Before starting Rebamipide, consult a healthcare provider to evaluate the appropriateness of therapy and determine the optimal dosage. Self-medication is strongly discouraged and may lead to adverse outcomes.
- Tablets for oral administration, dosage 100 mg.
- Form: biconvex, coated, white or almost white in color.
- The drug is also available as an eye suspension (for dry keratoconjunctivitis) - Mucosta ophthalmic, but in this case we are talking about oral tablets.
