Active ingredient

Methylcobalamin is a coenzyme form of vitamin B₁₂ involved in the synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates.

Dosage
  • Adults: usually administered 500 mcg (1 ampoule) intramuscularly or subcutaneously once daily.
  • Course of treatment: depends on the severity of the disease and the patient's response to therapy; usually 2 weeks.
  • Children: dosage is determined individually, depending on age and body weight.

Methycobal is a medication containing methylcobalamin, the active coenzyme form of vitamin B₁₂. It is used for the treatment of neurological and hematological disorders associated with vitamin B₁₂ deficiency.

Indications for Use:

  1. Neurological Disorders:
    • Peripheral neuropathy.
    • Diabetic neuropathy.
    • Trigeminal neuralgia.
  2. Hematological Disorders:
    • Megaloblastic anemia caused by vitamin B₁₂ deficiency.
  3. Other Conditions:
    • Liver diseases.
    • Pancreatitis.
    • Dystrophic conditions in children.
    • Down syndrome.
    • Cerebral palsy.

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to methylcobalamin or any components of the drug.
  • Erythremia, erythrocytosis, or thromboembolism.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only under strict medical supervision when clearly indicated.

Side Effects:

  1. Allergic Reactions:
    • Skin rash, pruritus (itching), urticaria (hives).
  2. Cardiovascular System:
    • Tachycardia, chest pain (pain in the heart area).
  3. Nervous System:
    • Headache, dizziness, agitation.
  4. Other:
    • Diarrhea.
    • Hypercoagulability when used in high doses.

Special Instructions:

  1. Blood Parameter Monitoring:
    • For prolonged use, regular monitoring of peripheral blood parameters is recommended.
  2. Drug Interactions:
    • Methylcobalamin may enhance allergic reactions caused by thiamine.
    • It is not recommended to combine with drugs that increase blood coagulation.
  3. Pregnancy and Lactation:
    • Use only under medical supervision and when strictly necessary.
