Active ingredient
Mexazolam is a benzodiazepine anxiolytic with sedative, anti-anxiety and myorelaxant effects.
Dosage
- Adults: the initial dose is 1 mg 1-2 times daily.
- If necessary, the dose can be increased to 3 mg per day, divided into several doses, depending on clinical response and tolerability.
- Elderly patients and patients with impaired liver or renal function: it is recommended to start with lower doses and carefully monitor the patient's condition.
- Directions for use: tablets are taken orally, drinking sufficient water.
Melex is the trade name of a medication containing mexazolam, a benzodiazepine class drug. It is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders, whether associated with psychoneurotic conditions or not.
Indications for Use:
- Anxiety Disorders:
- Associated or not associated with psychoneurotic conditions.
Contraindications:
- Known hypersensitivity to mexazolam or other benzodiazepines.
- Myasthenia Gravis.
- Severe respiratory depression.
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (nocturnal apnea).
- Severe hepatic insufficiency.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
- Central Nervous System:
- Drowsiness, dizziness, decreased concentration, fatigue, ataxia.
- Digestive System:
- Nausea, dry mouth, constipation.
- Allergic Reactions:
- Skin rash, pruritus (itching).
- Other:
- Muscle weakness.
- Dependence with prolonged use.
Special Instructions:
- Risk of Dependence:
- Prolonged use of mexazolam may result in the development of physical and psychological dependence. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration.
- Drug Withdrawal:
- Abrupt discontinuation may lead to withdrawal syndrome. Gradual dose reduction under medical supervision is strongly recommended.
- Effect on Driving and Machinery Operation:
- The drug may impair concentration and psychomotor reaction speed. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machinery during treatment.
- Interaction with Alcohol:
- Concurrent use with alcohol enhances the sedative effect and is not recommended.
