Dosage
- The initial dose is 1 mg once a day.
- If necessary, the daily dose can be gradually increased (by 1 mg in 1-2 weeks) up to 4-6 mg.
- The maximum dose is 8 mg per day.
Glimepiride is an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to sulfonylurea derivatives of III generation, intended for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Indications for use:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus (insulin-independent) with the ineffectiveness of diet therapy and exercise.
Contraindications:
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis, precoma, coma.
- Hepatic and renal insufficiency.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
- Hypersensitivity to glimepiride, other sulfonylurea derivatives and sulfonamides.
Side effects:
- Hypoglycemia.
- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
- Allergic reactions: itching, skin rash.
